If a person or the shudra varna was not allowed to enter any local temple, then the reason was he/she was a sanitation worker (bhangi/chamaar, etc), and being poor, was dirty and stinky.

Per Srimad Bhagavtaam Dharma has four pillars: तप, सत्य, दया, and पवित्रता (cleanliness/purity).

When a shudra (or any person) is not clean, he/she is forbidden to enter a clean temple.

Now it is time that major temples build shower rooms where bhaktas can take a good bath, get some clean cloth free, and then enter temple for darshan or pujaa/haven etc.
