India Thursday passed a citizens amendment bill whereby persecuted minorities fleeing three neighboring Islamic countries and seeking refuge in India would be accorded citizen status. Muslims are excluded. This brought an angry response from the American establishment. (Thye say) All religions should be treated equal.

Should they be? Yes, (but) if religions themselves treat other religions equally.
However, there are two predatory religions in the world today that deny the equality of other religions. They each claim they have a monopoly from God to convert everybody to else to their own religion, either by fraud or by force. Christianity and Islam fight with each other over their respective claims.
So should nation states be offering equal status to all religions irrespective of their claims and practices? (No. All religions are not equally good in their ability to caue peace at personal to global level. – Suresh Vyas)

There are about 200 nation states in the world today. 126 of these are Christian majority countries and 71 countries in which Christians are a minority. Of these 50 are Muslim majority countries.
In 15 nations, Christianity has been deemed the state religion. These nations include England, Greece, and Iceland. In terms of how many Christians reside in a nation, the United States leads the pack with approximately 230 million. Apr 11, 2019
That leaves just about 20 odd countries with non-Muslim, non-Christian majorities. These can constitute a block.
Now America, as you can see can take no other stand than it does, because it does not want to be arraigned (aligned?) alongside the Islamic countries for their religion being what it is – an unequal one.
India did (very) well to pass the bill it did. Despite American displeasure, it should be able to count on China’s support, for China has its own problems with Islamist terrorists in its border region neighboring Afghanistan, and has itself been at the receiving end over its treatment of the Uighur Muslims.
