Five Answers for the Question – Who Is a Hindu

Who is a Hindu?

                                      I  am a Hindu.

 1.The word Hindu is most ancient and it is mentioned in Rig ved—8:2:41

In Rigved there is description of a king named’ VivHindu’ who donated 46000 cows. He was a very powerful king and involved in charity.

2. Rigved describes about a Rishi named Sandhav who was later  popularly known as  Haindav or Hindav.

3. Rigved  mentions Hindu word in Brahspati Agyam.

Himalayam samarabhya yavat Indu sarovaram,

Tam devnirmitam desham Hindusthanam praca kshate.

Himalaya to Indusarovar, the nation  established by Devas is called Hindusthan.

4. Meru tantra or Shaiv tantra has used word Hindu.

 Hinam ca dushya tyeva hindu ri tyu ccate priye.

 He  who comes out of ignorance and narrow thinking is a Hindu.

5. The above mantra has been repeated in ‘Kalpdrum’

Hinam dusayati  iti Hindu means he who is not narrow minded is a Hindu.

6. In   Paarijaat Haran the word Hindu has been described

Hinasti tapasa paapaam  dahikaam dushtamaansaan,

Hetibhih  satruvargam ca sa hindubhidhiyate.

7. Hindu    in Madhav Digviya

Onkaar mantra mooladhaya  punarjanm dridhaashayah,

Gobhakto bharat gurur hindu hinsan dushakah .

 He who believes that ONKAR sound is Parmatma itself and who believes in theory of karma or cause and effect, he who cares and looks after cows and he who keeps away from evilness is a Hindu.

The word Hindu is as ancient as Vedas and we have inherited it from the oldest scriptures  Vedas. The invaders never gave this to people of Bharat rather Vedas have addressed the people of Bharat as Hindu.
